International Law (year 4)

Course summary: The Minor International law is part of the “HBO-Rechten curriculum”. The minor provides insight and practical legal assignments in the field of international law. Core of the Minor is the legal advice that students will be preparing for (regional) businesses, organisations or to members of the European Parliament on a particular international legal subject.

During the minor students work on several assignments such as a practical legal research project. In moot court students represent parties in a current international conflict. You will practice your legal English and Intercultural skills. The focus is on your personal and professional development on which you will reflect in the final assessment.

Leerdoelen

  1. Students are able to recognize, analyse and apply basic theoretical knowledge in the field of international law.
  2. Students are able to recognize, analyse and apply basic international law theory on the subject of professional issues and dilemmas in an international context.
  3. Students are able to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions for issues in the field of international law to a specialist audience in an international context.

Students have knowledge of the international law system, in particular regarding human rights, international business law and European law.

This Minor is especially suitable for students of one of the following programmes: HBO-Rechten/Law, European Studies, Integrale Veiligheidskunde, Bestuurskunde, Bedrijfskunde en Human Resource Management. Students without any legal knowledge are strongly discouraged to enrol.

17th June 2019 students will be informed if they are allowed to join this minor (with reservation).

Ingangseisen

This minor is a graduation component of the Law degree program. The students of the Law degree therefore have priority over students from other courses. We allow a maximum number of 25 students and a minimum of 10 students.

 

Legal competencies at level 2 must be obtained before admission to the minor.
