Process Optimisation

The core idea is to maximize customer value while minimizing waste. Simply, lean means creating more value with fewer resources. All of that is being performed with the utmost "Respect for People" for the employees. Involving them in optimizing processes is crucial. A lean organization understands customer value and focuses its key processes to continuously increase it. The ultimate goal is to provide perfect value to the customer through a perfect value creation process that has zero waste.

To accomplish this, lean thinking changes the focus of management from optimising separate technologies, assets to optimizing the flow of products and services through entire value streams that flow horizontally across technologies, assets and departments to customers.

Eliminating waste along entire value streams, instead of at isolated points, creates processes that need less human effort, less space, less capital and less time to make products and services at far less costs and with much fewer defects. Companies are able to respond to changing customer desires with high variety, high quality, low cost and with very fast throughput times.

Students are required to optimise a (sub) process within an organisation of their choice or advice the client with an implementation plan which is accepted by the client and will be implemented when the students are finished.

This result or advice is achieved by practicing with various tools and being communicated and delivered according to the A3 methodology. This advice needs to be 'sold' in an advisory presentation to the client(s) and will be assessed by the at least 2 members of the teaching staff. All intermediate products are formative in nature and intended to contribute to the final product.

Please note, there is one knowledge examination midway through the first period in order to be allowed to continue in this semester to the external project where the final product needs to be delivered.
