International Business & Development

Want to learn how to do business in a developing country?
International Business & Development provides a multi stakeholder learning arena on establishing new business in upcoming economies.

In a multidisciplinary team with students from other programs you work on a company assignment, supported by lectures and literature. The real-life project focusses on the development of new activities based on an innovative agrifood concept in a developing country. You look at business aspects, the work of NGO’s and government, their mission, vision and policies, the building of smallholder cooperatives and the influence of physical aspects such as infrastructure, IT and technology.

Leerdoelen

On completing this minor, you will have gained:

  • An insight in the relationship between a biobased and a circular economy, and how these fit in a sustainable society
  • An understanding of the impact of developing a biobased economy on the agrifood sector and vice versa
    Knowledge of all aspects of biobased production chains, in particular in the agrifood chain
  • Insight in the biorefinery of various types of biomass and the production processes of biobased products and materials
  • A vision on the combined production of food, feed, fuel and biobased products
  • The ability to conduct a stakeholder analysis in biobased production chains
  • Knowledge of old and new business models suitable for biobased production chains in the agrifood sector
  • The ability to translate the sustainable ambitions of entrepreneurs into concrete, workable biobased applications
  • The experience of making a professional contribution to a multidisciplinary group, on the basis of your own talents and competencies specific to your study programme

Ingangseisen

To participate in this minor, you must have completed your first year and have earned at least 40 ECTS during your second year.

For this minor, an affinity for the living environment, agriculture or food is required.

Toetsing

Grading: 40% group assignment, 20% individual assignment, 40% written test, exchange/guest lectures are mandatory.
