(International) Entrepreneurship in Action

At Stenden University of Applied Sciences, you will do more than simply gain knowledge; you get to put theory to practice with real-world cases. You do this in small groups, with students from all over the world. Discover your strengths, develop your own opinion, and use your expertise to solve problems. So that you’re ready to make the world your own.

(International) Entrepreneurship in Action (EiA) is an opportunity to use the comparative advantage of Stenden university as an international higher education network-organization to create international network learning (and teaching) for students. So ‘unleashing potentials’ to create integrated 'multinational' learning processes, by using new technology while practicing PBL-learning methodology.

Welcome to the new study program Entrepreneurship in Action. The red line of this program is the "learning of entrepreneurship", by gaining relevant experiences –for future- entrepreneurial actions. There is a theoretical part resulting in a so called “personal business plan” and the practical application in creating added value successfully for a first customer in the (international) learning company.

Theory of (international) Entrepreneurship in Action

To learn the theory on entrepreneurship there are all kinds of study aspects which are carried out in this part of the study program of 15 ECTS.

Some 20 assignments have to be conducted. Simulations will be played, workshops experienced, some guest lectures, a personal business plan has to be realized, etc.

Nothing is as effective as good theory! So this theory is learned by presenting theory, explaining to others in way that this audience is activated regarding the specific presented theory.

Because the outcome of the leaning process is complex and uncertain, the CRAP system is used to register and justify the personal learning processes in a personal digital portfolio.

Learning Company: experiencing real (international) Entrepreneurship in Action

We do have several assignments of companies for groups of students that will operate as a learning company. Also here the study program leads to the acquisition of 15 ECTS when passed

See handbook learning company’s! Actually this is practicing the credo:

Each entrepreneur begins with a first customer”, so a Group of students that carry out a real assignment while been monitored bi-weekly by the Advisory Board of experts and entrepreneurs.

See Handbook: there is a separate process of assessment.

Because the outcome of the leaning process is complex and uncertain, the CRAP system is used to register and justify the personal learning processes in a personal digital portfolio.

Thought the complete study program is 30 ECTS, completion of the study program of 8 weeks will lead to 15 ECTS when the intermediate tests are passed.

If you want to change the world, start with yourself, is a familiar credo. That's why I just started making this learning and teaching program for entrepreneurship. The credo "unleashing potential" of Stenden as an action, carried out in practice.

Aanvullende informatie

In order to fully prepare you for your Kies op Maat study at Stenden, two introduction days -together with incoming exchange students from abroad- are scheduled. During these days you will get a campus tour, meet teachers and staff, learn how to use (ICT) facilities on campus and you will be introduced to the student life. Moreover, we offer an introduction to our learning system: Problem Based Learning (PBL). Understanding the PBL system is fundamental for your successful study experience at Stenden. Therefore we expect you to be present these two days.

This study program is a framework for learning entrepreneurship, with an emphasis on learning. This means that participants gain a lot of experiences -and thus learn- by finding out topics regarding  the theory of entrepreneurship find out and present their findings to others (explain to others is by De Sousa, the most effective method to learn).

The program is rounded off with the presentation of a "personal business plan" (you have to convince the financier of your plan: why would someone invest  "€ 5,000" in you and in your education?).

The PACT system of action points registration, time registration, the signed authenticity statement and a digital portfolio is documenting the learning process, making it verifiably and provide adequate information for an assessment ("assessment") of acquired skills at the various levels of complex behavior and actions.

Testing is done on the basis of the theory presentations, presenting a personal business plan, CRAP portfolio and scores on specific (theme) assignments, such as the elevator pitch.
