Structure of the minor

• 15 ECTS  (420 study hours)
• 9 week course
• The learning outcomes will cover:
  • Selecting appropriate data sources based on a real-life business case
  • Building a data model using Microsoft Power BI
  • Constructing and analyzing data visualizations to support decision making for a real-life business case.
  • Applying data visualization design to effectively communicate data to decision makers
• We will meet you where you’re at in terms of experience with data, this course is for all levels of expertise.   If you’re curious about data but have no experience or prior knowledge, that’s ok! This course starts from the basics.  But if you want to take it to the next level, that’s fine too.
• This course offers hands-on labs, expert learning sessions, live demos, Q&A sessions, group discussions, and lectures amongst others
• The course closely connects together with (hospitality) industry experts for the business cases
• You will use readily available online resources to learn Power BI - self-study supported by in-person and online expert sessions.
• This course brings in experts from around the globe to bring you the latest in, for instance design, data modeling, Power BI, data visualisation, and storytelling.

• Data is important, no matter the industry! So even if you don’t want to work as a data analyst or in the hospitality industry, this minor helps you to get an understanding of how to use data to support business decision making regardless of your career path.
• If you’re interested in data and want to learn more about the world of data this minor is for you. You don’t have to be an expert in data, IT, Excel, etc. This minor is about becoming aware of what is out there in terms of data and increasing your awareness of the importance of data. In other words, developing a data mindset.
• This is a third-year bachelor level course
• There are no extra costs (you will receive a one-year Microsoft Power BI Pro license for free)

Before you start it is important to know the technical requirements necessary to run Microsoft Power BI on your laptop.

• You must have Windows OS (Operating System) in order to use Power BI (on a Mac that means you have to be able to run a virtual Windows OS). Be aware that Chromebooks and Linux OS are not supported and compatible with Power BI;
• For optimal performance with the Power BI software, it is preferable to have a laptop with Windows 10, intel core i5/AMD Ryzen 5 or higher, and at least 8GB of RAM.
