Data Driven Business Lab

Are you triggered by what data can do for companies, organisations and society? Do you want to learn how to work with data and create something valuable? Look no further!

Content of the minor

Join this Minor if you want to see, in real life what the impact of data can be for a company or government. Learn how it can support, change or even disrupt business models. Imagine any company, not so many years ago. This company generated its own data and reports, based on its trusted single source and examining the past. Yet the world this company lived in geared up, moved on, moved up. Now everything is generating data, from phone calls to smart devices, from blogs to video feeds. The world now is a complex challenge, where data is available, abundant and everywhere, and internal company data is but part of the new truth. Can these datasets be unlocked, combined and used for potential business benefit? Can they trigger many small decisions fast instead of large decisions at snail pace…

A change of mindset and context: that is what we are going to discover together.

Learning goals

The goals below give direction to the learning process. They will be personalised in the first weeks of the minor allowing the student to make them fit to personal learning wishes and the projects have been chosen. Personalising involves adding specific context (regarding the projects) and/or specific deliverables and visualisation tools, platforms or languages that will be a part of the personal learning experience. Students will be coached in this process.

  1. The student takes ownership in the learning process, towards stakeholders, fellow students and the process within the group and uses feedback and coaching to improve the learning journey.

  1. The student creates data products by using analytical methods and techniques and explains how these are of value for the client’s organizational processes.

  1. The student explains at least one relevant IT concept or technology and applies one within a project.

  1. The student explains how data (internal, external, open) flows through and/or across organizations and which IT landscape supports the organizational process(es) by showing this in a project.

  1. The student uses applied research methodologies to create project deliverables and takes ethical considerations into account.

  1. <Open goal: which is free to define involving whatever is needed further down the road.>

Achieving the goals

Students will need to provide sufficient proof of reaching the complete set of learning goals during the minor. They will do this by creating learning products, professional products and by showing the learning process and the work (in progress). The projects provided by companies and applied research groups will be the main carrier for gathering that evidence.

Minor Regulation

Here you can find the minor regulation. The purpose of the minor regulation is to inform you about the subjects within the minor, how the testing is set up and when you have concluded the minor. Students can derive rights out of the text of the minor regulation.
