Game Design & Development

Do you want create a releasable video game? Do you want to experience what it is like to work on a single project with a big team? Do you want to focus on your speciality whilst coordinating your efforts with the other teams? Then this minor is for you: supported by coaches, you will design, develop and release a single game with the whole class. You will specialise in specific roles, such as management, production, development, art, game design or game marketing, and work in dedicated scrum teams to produce all the parts needed for a successful game launch. In addition to the main project (10 EC) you will be offered the opportunity to complete four elective courses (5 EC per course) as part of this minor. The electives on offer vary, but we have offered such options as Artificial Intelligence, Robots, Unreal, Creature Design, Narrative Design, Marketing & Monetization, Game Audio, Prototyping and Procedural Generation.

Given learning outcomes for the project:

• E1 - The student can perform as a valuable team member within a complex but structured context.

• F1 - The student can experiment with new technological trends, and can model a realisable solution in professional products or processes.

• G1 - The student can identify the role that suites them, can identify the learning goals to fit this role, can identify the necessary steps to achieve these goals, and can identify improvements to this process.

Ingangseisen

This minor is intended for students with a technical background, for ICT or CMGT, due to the technical nature of the various electives, and the required knowledge of creating digital solutions. Experience with programming, prototyping, 3D modelling and scrum are preferred. You have successfully completed your propaedeutic year. The programme is taught in English.

Toetsing

Assesment

The project is individually assessed through a development portfolio and a Criteria Based Interview (CBI). Three learning goals are given, and as part of the project you have to select two additional ones. The assessment and learning outcomes for the electives are different per elective. Possible assessment forms could be digital product, essay, presentation, user research report, prototype and communication of the project.
