Spanish Language and Culture Advanced (B2)

The B2 level minor in Spanish Language and Culture provides an engaging and comprehensive learning experience for students. It focuses on refining fluency, expanding vocabulary, and deepening cultural immersion. With a strong emphasis on developing a command of vocabulary and grammar, students engage in meaningful conversations on a wide range of topics. The course incorporates subjects such as Spanish Grammar, Oral Expression, Culture and Traditions (music, film, cuisine, art, celebrations) History of Spain and Latin America. In addition, students actively participate in immersive experiences that foster language practice and cultural understanding. This includes discussions, debates, presentations, and an exploration of literary works and cultural artifacts. The course aims to propel learners towards an advanced level of proficiency in the Spanish language and culture, preparing them for real-world application and communication including the professional field.

Learning Objectives: 

This minor aims at developing the language skills at B2 level of the CEFR in Spanish as well as the political, economic and sociocultural knowledge of the students about Spain and the Spanish speaking world.  

 

B2 level of Spanish refers to an upper-intermediate level of Spanish proficiency. At B2 level, you can understand complex topics, communicate fluently with native speakers, write detailed texts, and use the language in different situations. 

Overall learning outcomes level B2: 

Students can understand the main ideas of complex texts dealing with both concrete and abstract topics, even if they are of a technical nature as long as they are within their field of specialization. 

Students are able to interact with native speakers with a sufficient degree of fluency and spontaneity so that communication is effortless for either party. 

Students can produce clear, detailed texts on a variety of topics, as well as defend a point of view on general topics indicating the pros and cons of different options. 

Understand the politics, business and culture of Spain and the Hispanic world: 

Students are able to identify and process the cultural specificities used in the context of the Spanish language. 

Learn to learn in Spanish

Students are able to use digital and non-digital methods, tools, materials, resources and information in Spanish. 

Work in a Spanish speaking context

Students are able to work and carry out professional tasks in a Spanish speaking context.

Aspirant students must be able to demonstrate their command of Spanish at B1.2 level (certificate or intake test) 

Literatuur

The definitive choice for a textbook is still under analysis, since several new B2 books have been published. Preliminary: Aula Internacional

Semester 2

Scheduling: preferably, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings 

Toetsing

Testing:  

A written exam with 3-4 open essay questions in class, including a listening comprehension at the end of the semester (50%). Among the tasks of the exam is the elaboration of products related to the world of work and the demonstration that students have a good understanding of the socio-cultural world of Spanish. All within the parameters of a B2 level of Spanish. 

4 oral assessments carried out during the semester, combination of presenting and interactive speaking skills (50%),and that, as in the written exam, help the student in his future development in the professional and socio-cultural world of the Spanish language. 

 

Resit of both written and oral parts in the next exam period.
