REBEL (Real Experience Borderless Entrepreneurial Learning)

After successfully completing this minor you will be able to comprehend the process of entrepreneurship - from coming up with a viable business idea to setting up the business using building blocks such as finance, marketing, sales, legal issues, logistics, research, testing your product/service, etc.

Here is a summary of what you can expect during the REBEL minor:

PHASE 1

  1. During the kick-off you will meet other entrepreneurial minded students like you and select your business partners during a business speed date.
  1. You and your business partners will brainstorm the business ideas you have and select one.
  1. You will pitch your selected business idea to an audience and either get the key to the next phase or be given constructive feedback to repair your idea.
  1. Your team will be assigned a coach (a lecturer with business experience) who will guide you throughout the minor. You will also have access to other coaches with differing business expertise.

PHASE 2

  1. Your team will carry out research to find out if (and how) your business idea is/can be appealing to your target stakeholders and target market. Research includes carrying out interviews, making direct observations, surveys, desktop research, etc.
  1. Your team will prepare and present interactive lessons to fellow student entrepreneurs.
  1. Your team will submit a written business plan showing the conclusions of your research.

PHASE 3

  1. Your team will register the business at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce and open up a business bank account.
  1. Your team will build a website/ webshop / social media channels/ etc.
  1. START SELLING!
  1. Your team will submit a final business report showing the process and results of your phase 3 and plans for the future of the business.

Throughout the entire minor, your team will go through a rigorous process of constantly testing your assumptions about the value you think you are bringing to the market through your product/service.  As part of the community of (student) entrepreneurs and coaches, you will constantly receive feedback on your business concept.  You will also add value to the business ventures of other members of the community by giving them feedback on their business concepts as well.

This entrepreneurial community consists of people of all capabilities and backgrounds, each with her/his own unique qualities. This means that your individuality will be part of what makes the community thrive. You will be able to develop yourself to be a person who is more confident and dares to take on personal responsibility and also dares to take on new adventures. You will realize the power that you have within yourself to accomplish the things you want to accomplish in your life. Your innovativeness and ability to stay focused on a goal will also be sharpened.  This minor will help to develop your unique individual traits and skills.

REVIEWS

“I love that this course motivates me since it's a starting an actual business that I want to do.
Also, I can see that people in this course are generally inspired and motivated by each other.”

Sunghoon from South Korea, Rebel minor student entrepreneur 2022 - 2023

“What I really like about the minor is the clear structure of the program and the focus on getting/receiving feedback from other students. The freedom you get in this minor is exceptional and the teachers are so helpful. I am doing my major at Avans University of Applied Sciences and things are different over there; less freedom and working by what the books says. My mind set has changed as well. At Avans I was happy with a 5.6 grade. Now, on the other hand, I am working my ass off from Monday till Friday (sometimes even weekends), to create something extraordinary and something I am proud of presenting to others. COVID gave me the opportunity to do a minor in The Netherlands and therefore I am pretty thankful towards the virus.”

Dylan from the Netherlands, Rebel minor student entrepreneur 2020 - 2021
