Advanced Synthesis en Analysis

In the Advanced Synthesis & Analysis elective semester, you will work on innovative projects across the broad field of chemistry. You’ll apply synthesis and analytical techniques to develop new materials, molecules, or processes—or to improve existing applications.

You will collaborate with various industry partners and research groups on real, current challenges straight from professional practice. Through lectures, workshops, and laboratory classes, you will learn the techniques and concepts needed to shape your project with confidence and depth.

Along the way, you’ll discover how chemistry drives technological innovation and contributes to sustainable solutions across diverse sectors.

Minor content

In this minor, you will carry out a practice‑oriented research project in which you independently work on experiments, data analysis, and the design of chemical investigations. You will learn to apply modern synthesis and analytical methods while developing the skills needed to perform laboratory work systematically and professionally.

Working alongside external partners and researchers, you will contribute ideas to innovations in material development, process optimization, or other chemistry‑related challenges. The minor gives you the freedom to work in an exploratory, research‑driven way, discover emerging technologies, and build a strong portfolio that prepares you for a future career in the chemical field.

Structure of the minor

The minor includes a major project (24 EC) in which you independently work on a current research question within a relevant chemical theme. You are supported by complementary lab practicals, workshops, and excursions designed to strengthen the skills you need to successfully complete your project. This guidance helps you apply essential research techniques, such as systematically designing experiments, analyzing results, and critically evaluating scientific literature.

In addition, you will take several elective courses (each 3 EC), with final titles and content still to be announced. These courses connect directly to your project and offer additional depth in chemical theory, laboratory techniques, and professional research competencies. This allows you to build a broad and solid foundation that you can apply both during the minor and in your future career.

The Advanced Synthesis and Analysis minor is designed for students who want to further develop their expertise within the chemical domain. While the program offers strong academic depth for students with an established background in chemistry, it is also open to motivated students from other disciplines who have an interest in chemical research, laboratory work, or material development.

With its combination of hands-on research, guided academic enrichment, and space for personal learning goals, this minor is a strong fit for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the world of modern chemical analysis and synthesis.
