Future cities and Regenerative Design
The future is challenging the way we build our cities. In this module you will work in interdisciplinary teams on an integral design research for a city district in 2075. You research and design future solutions that enhance the quality of life, cut cities’ carbon emissions and build resilience to extreme weather. You research critical infrastructure services like mobility, energy, food, water and waste and its impact on the urban structure and public space.
Guest speakers from the industry of smart mobility, alternative energy, waste flows, water management, smart cities, etcetera will share their knowledge and experience to support you in your project work. You will visit and investigate interesting projects on field trips in the Netherlands and abroad.
In this module you will work in an inspiring and challenging international environment. You will develop your skills in cross-cultural communication and teamwork through the course Intercultural Awareness.
Leerdoelen
Next level: future cities and regenerative design
With a clear focus on sustainability, you will expand your knowledge and gain insight in the latest development of future design. Designing with a focus on creating a cleaner, more social and better planet for every living organism.
In this minor you will be working from the city scale to the technical detail of a building. The 30EC minor is divided in different parts with a cohesive program throughout the minor. Teamwork and getting to know each other is a mayor part of this experience where groups are interdisciplinary (and internationally) and different visions will merge together.
You will start with the module Future Cities (15 EC) where the design of a future part of Zwolle will be created, followed by a Techathon (1EC) where an interdisciplinary task awaits you. The final part of the minor is the module Regeneratieve Design (14 EC) where you will take a deep dive into the next level of sustainability. Here your point of view will transfer from a city district to a building: you design this building up to it’s technical details while taking the future aspects of sustainability to the next level!
