Audio & visual design - English

Are you currently studying in the creative industry and interested in artistic projects where you can experiment with visuals and sound design? Then the AV-design minor is perfect for you.

Your interest in designing, creating and realizing media productions goes beyond the classroom. You have experience using Adobe's visual design software such as Photoshop or Adobe Premiere. And you're curious about new creative applications of media such as interactive and immersive installations, projection and soundscapes.

You don't need to have experience with music production or sound design yet, but you're eager to learn more about it.

Content

This minor teaches you how to develop audiovisual installations with the goal of creating a story, a feeling or an experience in a physical space or with an object. We use the technique of projection mapping: A technique where we project visual content onto spaces, objects and people.

During the minor you'll develop skills in audio production and design, visual design and storytelling. Creative and iterative research plays an important role – you experiment, test and refine your ideas continuously.

During exhibitions you'll show audiovisual installations with interactive, immersive and performative elements. You bring your stories and experiences to the audience, with the space around you – complete with physical objects – serving as the decor.

At the end of the minor you'll have a portfolio that shows the professional field what you've made and who you are as a creator. Watch the teaser.

Topics

Project
In the project you'll develop your own audiovisual installation in which you – using image and sound – create a story in a physical environment. In the other courses you'll learn the necessary skills and gain the knowledge to complete this project.

Digital audio design
In this course you'll learn to produce music and sound using Ableton Live. You'll learn how to compose music and how to convey sound to an audience in a live performance or installation.

Visual Design & Projection mapping
During this course you'll design visuals (graphics, motion graphics, animation, film) for audiovisual installations where you use space, objects or people as your decor.

Creative research in design practice
In this course you'll conduct research from a creative and artistic perspective. You'll search for original and surprising ways to shape your installation.

Artistic vision in context
You can recognize a beautiful audiovisual work by the fact that there's a strong vision behind it and a clear perspective from the maker on how this person thinks about the given subject. In this course you'll learn to ask questions and use existing sources to discover your personal vision.

Additional costs

Please note that you will have to spend approximately € 200 on materials, software and field trips.
