Media Start Up, publish your magazine

In semester 1 (September - January) the minor programme is in Dutch.

In semester 2 (February - June) the minor programme is international, so in English.

Are you creative and do you enjoy working with an entrepreneurial mindset? Or are you an entrepreneur who would like to work in the creative sector? In this minor programme you will learn to work professionally in your own creative and innovative media company where you make and sell a magazine.

In 20 weeks, you and your fellow students will form a company and publish a magazine. You make this magazine together with your fellow students: from theme, editorial formula and target group to the texts, photography and design. Moreover, the intention is to actually achieve turnover. So you do not only create content, but you also research the international publishing market, develop a sales strategy, draw up an operational marketing plan and execute it. The production and logistics of the magazine are entirely up to you. Your company has an active online environment that requires new content all the time.

In this minor programme you will develop your own vision of the future of publishing. But above all, you will learn to work together in an innovative and creative media company and everything that comes with it.

What will you create and learn?

You will create and produce content for the magazine and the online environment. Your magazine should also generate revenue, for example by selling to consumers or bringing in advertisers. You're going to be a creative maker and an entrepreneur.

As a group, you are responsible for the entire process; idea, content (text and images), editing, design, production, sales and logistics. Working well together is crucial. You hand in an individual portfolio at the end of this minor programme.

At the end of this minor programme you will be ready for the world of publishing. You know how to find, capture and market stories of value. You are familiar with the current world of publishers and have enough knowledge of their products, target groups and strategies to take on your own role as a publisher of the future.
