Software Engineering for Engineers
Upgrade yourself to a fully fledged software engineer!
Do you already have (a bit of) programming experience and want more? In this minor, you’ll be trained in just half a year to become a professional software developer. Class times and location (Enschede or Deventer) are flexible, and you work at your own pace. After completing your bachelor’s degree and this minor, you could also directly enter the master’s programme ICT: Software Engineering at Saxion.
Course content
In this minor, you expand your basic programming knowledge into a solid understanding of several different programming languages and techniques.
You learn how to build interactive websites and mobile apps. You discover how the internet works behind the scenes and how to design databases in a smart, efficient way. You also learn how to structure larger software systems so they can be used by many people at the same time.
After completing this minor (and of course your own bachelor’s degree), you could be admitted directly to the master’s programme ICT: Software Engineering at Saxion.
Leerdoelen
Target group
This minor is intended for anyone who already has some programming experience but wants to develop their skills further. We expect that you’ve written a few simple programs or scripts before, for example in an introductory programming course during your own bachelor’s programme.
Why this minor?
You want to gain more hands‑on programming experience and learn how to build software that other people can actually use. On top of that, this minor gives you the opportunity to continue your studies after your bachelor’s degree in the master’s programme ICT: Software Engineering at Saxion.

Activities
You’re welcome in the Associate Degree Software Development classroom every day. There, you study theory at your own pace or watch instructional videos. Each week, you complete several practice assignments, either independently or together with a classmate. Teachers are always present in the workspace to help you whenever you get stuck. You can also ask for support from fellow students or senior students from the Ad Software Development who are around.
Once you finish a practice assignment, you review it with a teacher. If you’ve completed it successfully, you move on to the next one. As soon as you’ve finished all practice assignments for a subject, you take the exam and earn your credits.

Assessment methods
An exam usually consists of developing your own application in which you apply the techniques from a specific course. You’re given one or two days to complete it. You can take the exam whenever you feel ready, so it doesn’t have to be during an official exam week.
