Policy, Governance and Communication (COM/PA) (transfer minor/doorstroomminor)
The Master’s in Communication Science and the Master’s in Public Administration offer a double degree programme Policy, Governance and Communication.
In an era of rapid technological change, misinformation, and complex societal challenges, the master’s program of Policy, Governance and Communication equips future professionals with the expertise to navigate today’s dynamic public sphere.
This double degree master’s program integrates governance, policymaking, and communication science, preparing students to address issues such as crisis management in technological domains, global public policy, and legitimacy in governance. Courses like The Post-Truth Society and The Public Discourse explore the shifting landscape of democracy and media. Meanwhile, Data-Driven Design for Strategic Communication and Power and Participation in Digital Life provide tools to develop impactful policies and communication strategies.
This double degree program, with a duration of 1.5 years (90 EC), ends with one combined master thesis and fosters critical thinking and innovative solutions for the future of governance and public communication.

The goal of this transfer minor is to 1) get an impression of the content of the master programme and to find out if studying at our university suits you 2) to prepare for UT's on the master programme Policy, Governance and Communictaion (COM/PA) by gaining both content and research -knowledge and skills at university level 3) to qualify for the formal requirements for entering our UT Master of Science Communication Science (MSc COM) and the Master of Science Public Administration (MSc PA).
Upon successful completion of this 30 EC minor, you have direct and unconditional access to both MSc programmes Communication Science (COM) and Public Administration (PA) at the University of Twente.
Ingangseisen
This minor aims to attract students from universities of applied sciences (HBO) and other universities in the Netherlands who have the right motivation and capacities to complete our university level English-taught double degree programme in the field of Policy, Governance and Communication (Communication Science (MSc COM) and Public Administration (MSc PA)).
The University of Twente assumes that students who start this transfer minor possess sufficient prior knowledge in mathematics (preferably Wiskunde –A on so-called VWO-level) and that they are sufficiently proficient in English (benchmark score in this regard: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80). Students are supposed to assess themselves whether their competencies in this respect match with the recommended levels.
In any case you need to have completed 120 EC’s from your current bachelor’s programme before starting this transfer minor. Your current bachelor programme must be sufficiently related to Communication Science and Public Administration. Related HBO Bachelor programmes:

Applicants from other bachelor’s degree programmes awarded by a Dutch university of applied sciences who have prior knowledge in Policy, Governance and Communication (at least 30ECs) will be considered to be admitted to the Pre-Master’s programme. To be decided by the Admissions Committee of the joint programmes.
A content-related field implies that an applicant possesses sufficient knowledge and skill with regard to the content and domain of Communication Science and Public Administration.

When you hand in the 'Leerovereenkomst' (Learning agreement), please attach all required documents. Without this information your request cannot be assessed by the admission committee!

In general you will use scientific articles and books.
Rooster
The pre-master programme is a full-time programme, lectures may be scheduled on any (working) day of the week.
Toetsing
In general the courses of the pre-master programme are assessed with an individual exam and/or (group)assignment(s). Important: You must complete your pre-master program within 1 year, with a maximum of 2 opportunities per exam/test.
The pre-master programme runs twice per year, starting in September or February.

The learning agreement signed by the student and his Examination Board must have reached the UT-contact person before the enrollment ends.
