Building intercultural bridges: working in a multicultural context (English-Nederlands)

Are you ready to expand your horizons and prepare yourself for a truly global future? In the minor Building Intercultural Bridges: working in a multicultural context, you’ll dive into the fascinating world of cultural diversity and explore its many dimensions—identity, migration, integration, globalization, cultural conflicts, image formation, and intercultural communication. These are not just abstract concepts—they’re hot topics in today’s political and social debates that directly impact workplaces everywhere.
Why does this matter to YOU? Because as an HBO professional, developing intercultural expertise (Global Citizenship) isn’t just a bonus—it’s a necessity to build bridges between different groups of people in today’s interconnected society and workplace.

What makes this minor stand out?
You’ll be working on two assignments:
1. your own creative assignment on an intercultural subject of your choice: for example a documentary, podcast, social media campaign, etc.

YOU decide the topic that resonates with your interests and career goals and, based on research, produce a product of your choice to showcase that.

2. your own project on a topic within cultural diversity: to contribute to awareness and/or participation around cultural diversity locally or internationally.

Collaborate with students from different fields on a project of your choice with members of (intercultural) communities. For example organize a vibrant food-event by and with neighbourhood / international inhabitants to create connections with each other. Imagine this: as a social work student, you’ll bridge divides and foster meaningful connections between diverse communities. As an arts student, you’ll design an eye-catching and culturally inspired concept for the food-event. And as an intercultural communication student, you’ll craft innovative and accessible ways to inform and engage local residents.

Guided by Experts: Due to the personalized nature of this minor, you’ll be closely supported by experienced coaches in the field of cultural diversity and intercultural communication.

Experiences of students:
I liked the idea of having more freedom in your assignment and being able to be creative with it.” (Student iArts)
“I thought it was very interesting because we had never done something like that before.” (Student European Studies)
“Made me more motivated and excited to work on it because it was more fun due to involving own interests.” (Student Social Work)
