In deze minor onderzoek je welke relatie sieraden, accessoires en objecten hebben ten opzichte van het lichaam. Het lichaam gezien van verschillende perspectieven want is een huis een lichaam of een plant? Je leert de waarde en betekenis van dit soort objecten te begrijpen door te filosoferen, beschrijven en maken.

Het doel is om een breder perspectief te krijgen in de manier hoe sieraden, accessoires en objecten gedragen en gebruikt kunnen worden en hoe zij andere disciplines kunnen inspireren en beïnvloeden in o.a. verschijning en toepassingen. Denk hierbij aan de mode-industrie, muziekindustrie, theater, zorg of media.

Welke rol je als ontwerper of maker inneemt om sieraden of andere vormen van lichaam gerelateerde objecten te creëren die ondersteunend, verhalend of versierend kunnen zijn. Sieraden of lichaamsobjecten die bijvoorbeeld een bijdrage kunnen leveren aan sociale vraagstukken.

Dit zullen wij samen onderzoeken door hun vermogen om betekenis en symboliek uit te dragen alsmede de verbinding naar aangrenzende disciplines zoals o.a. muziek, mode, gezondheidszorg en architectuur te bespreken. Ook het onderzoek naar de waarde van materiaaltoepassing en sociale en culturele contexten, tradities en subculturen zullen tijdens deze minor besproken of onderzocht worden.

 

Understanding jewelry or objects not only in relationship with itself but in a wider context by writing, philosophizing and making.

The aim of this minor is to get an insight in the way jewelry, accessories and objects are being worn and used on the body.  What could a body be, is a house a body or even plants? How you as a designer can play a distinctive role in creating a new or stronger context for (future) body adornments. We will question their ability to carry meaning and symbolism as well as their link to adjacent disciplines such as music, fashion or health care. The value of material as well as social and cultural context, subcultures and heritage will be deeper examined during this project.

De opzet van deze minor is als volgt: Deze minor bestaat uit 1 module verdeeld over 10 weken. De studielast is 15 ECTS en we verwachten een fulltime beschikbaarheid.
De module begint met een week “Setting the Stage” waarin we het domein verkennen door middel van veldwerk en excursies. De module wordt afgesloten met een presentatie en reflectie op het creatieve en onderzoeksproces. De Kunstacademie Maastricht behoudt zich het recht voor om niet te starten met een minor wanneer het minimum aantal deelnemers niet wordt gehaald.

Contact times 16 hours throughout the week during the day.

The set-up of this minor will be as follows: This minor consists of 1 module spread over 10 weeks. The course load is 15 ECTS and we expect full time availability.The module starts with a week “Setting the Stage” in which we explore this domain by fieldwork and excursions. The module concludes with a presentation and reflection on the creative and research process. The Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design reserves the right not to start with a minor in case when not receiving the minimum needed participants.

De minor wordt afgesloten met een locatiegebonden presentatie van het project en een mondelinge presentatie van het proces en de resultaten.

Concept (4 studiepunten), maaklaboratoria (4 studiepunten), artistiek onderzoek (4 studiepunten), context/visualisering (3 studiepunten).

Studenten hebben recht op 2 toetsen per jaar, zowel in het jaar van deelname als in de daaropvolgende jaren.

 

The minor will be concluded with a site-specific presentation of the project and an oral presentation of the process and results.

Concept (4 credits), Make Laboratories (4 credits), Artistic Research (4 credits), Contexting/Visualisation (3 credits).

Students are entitled to 2 tests per year, both in the year of participation and in the following years.
