Is one Art & Culture Management period far too little for you? Would you like to actually learn how to apply the knowledge you have gained in this fantastic sector in practice? Then register right away for parts 1 and 2 of this minor and go for 30 EC of art and culture! Creatively put your freshly developed vision on art, policy and business into practice and test your design and management skills. After a lot of individual deepening, company visits and knowledge exchange in the first period, you now really start working together and managing in a multidisciplinary way. Together with your classmates, you will take on the challenge of designing and organizing a unique art and culture experience!

Minor content

In groups of approx. 3 to 6 students (depending on registrations) you will start designing and organizing a meaningful, cultural leisure experience on the basis of design thinking. What form this experience will take (be it a festival day, route, exhibition, field trip, showcase, talent show, contest or something completely different!) and which art disciplines will be discussed, is still completely open and you decide together. You do this by investigating what is already being done by cultural institutions, what is going on with the target group (young adults/students) and experts from the field, and what is current and interesting in the art and culture sector for this target group.

You then get to work with a realistic/feasible and substantively interesting design (project plan), which you test with experts before you move on to the implementation phase. Through expert sessions by coaches and professionals from the field, you will be fed during the process in areas such as design thinking, project management, fundraising, artistic interpretation (curating, booking and programming), publicity/communication, artist hospitality and volunteer coordination.

Structure of the minor

For many art and cultural institutions (museums, venues, theatres) it is one of the greatest challenges to reach the target group of young adults (students) and to attract them to their regular art offerings. This is the 'problem' from practice, which underlies and is the source of inspiration for the design challenge of this minor. By tackling this challenge now, while you are still part of the target group and you can empathize with fellow students, you will gain valuable knowledge and experience that you can use during an internship or as a graduate in the field of the art & culture sector to tackle the problem.

The most important learning outcomes are that at the end of the minor you demonstrate that you:

  • are able to design and organize a valuable cultural experience with an artistic theme together with others
  • multidisciplinary collaboration with classmates and external stakeholders
  • have taken into account the wishes and needs of the target group
  • have involved relevant professionals from the field
  • have developed personally and professionally

The challenge can and may be carried out for a real client from the field (they should already be sought and approached during ACM 1). If you do not work with a real client, the students and coaches will involve relevant professionals from the field in the process and the assessment of the end products.

Ingangseisen

Target group
  • This minor can only be followed in combination with ACM 1. ACM 1 & 2 are open to every student (also Kies op maat).
  • If you are a Leisure & Events Management student, you can graduate with the art & culture specialization if you successfully complete these minors and also carry out an internship and professional product in the same sector.
  • In addition, the minor is suitable for e.g. students of courses such as creative business, communication, media and design, without excluding other students who show an interest in this field.
  • It is a very valuable preparation for students who would like to work in the arts and culture sector.

Examination

The final project plan and the actual implementation of the cultural experience are assessed. Relevant professionals from the field are also involved in this assessment and aspects such as artistic interpretation, project management, implementation, design, etc. are also examined.
In addition, you individually submit a critical report (observation/evaluation) of a cultural experience you visited yourself and a personal reflection on the outcome, collaboration, learning objectives and professional development during the minor. All components must be completed with a passing grade (5.5 or 'pass') in order to obtain the 15 EC for Art & Culture Management 2.
