Media Innovation
Explore with us how creative journalism can be!
From AI, location-based content, interactivity, gaming, VR, AR, and 3D audio to theatre, art installations and oral storytelling. Journalists have a lot of digital and analogue tools and methods at their disposal to construct their stories. However, in the daily rush of producing stories – within the traditional boundaries of online, television, radio, and print – journalists and journalism students alike often do not get the chance to experiment with all the tools at their disposal. This programme aims to change that, enabling you to develop a creative mindset in your work.
Step with us into a creative carousel of tools and methods for idea generation and presentation. You will try your hand at different tools and approaches every couple of weeks, and work on your skill to generate out-of-the-box journalistic ideas. On a basic level you will be trained in the use of technological applications, such as AI applications and 3D audio, and for example – on the more analogue side of things – theatre and oral storytelling. But more importantly, you will learn to think differently, being able to see chances in the future and see what different tools and approaches do to a journalistic story. During the minor you will produce a portfolio of creative journalistic work, and at the end highlight your accomplishments in a public showcase. You end the minor with an oral exam, in which you discuss, together with your teachers, what tools had what kind of effect on your journalistic work, and where you think a great promise for journalism lies. Ultimately, the aim of this minor is to explore and experiment with what journalism can be.

What will you gain in the future?
The issues you will work on also concern companies, organisations and self-employed people who want to use media to address a target group. How do you reach your audience in a digital world, how do you involve them and keep them interested? And in such a way that it is affordable or even profitable. Creative media experts with business acumen are therefore in demand. So in your future profession, you might be the one to provide the answers to these questions
