Energy and Society
Energy has always played an important role in sustaining societies. In the future depletion of fossil fuel resources , technical innovation in energy technology and climate change will shape the role of energy in our society and as such the future business world. During this minor you will develop an insight in the important factors that drive the interactions of energy with social, political and economic aspects of our society.
You will learn about the role of energy as a product and as a resource. The scope in the lecture series will range from the international to the business level and will deal with past, present and future developments in the field of energy. During the minor conventional energy sources are discussed and put into context with new energy sources. Creating a broad general knowledge of strategic and operational knowledge of the socio-technical aspects of energy
The theoretical knowledge which is taught in the lecture series is complemented with a number of excursions to energy related companies. Providing the opportunity to gain knowledge of the operational aspect of energy sector and the required competences of people employed in the sector.
In addition a number of guest lectures have also been panned with speaker from the academic, political and business community providing you with a better understanding of the complex playing field of the current and future role energy plays in our society. A such a project dealing with oxford style scenario planning will provide you with an opportunity to explore potential energy futures. By learning to cope with uncertainties and identify important influencing factors you will strengthen strategic management competences. An international excursion to international energy agency in Paris planned due to scheduling this however is not guaranteed
The ability to analyze (renewable) energy concepts within a complex social setting with an emphasis on the commercial energy sector.
Develop a thorough knowledge of the position of current energy systems, energy sources and energy demand in our society.
Managing complex energy-related processes from an organisational and socio-economic perspective.
There will be worked in multidisciplinary teams. There is cooperation with companies in the energy sector in the Northern Netherlands.
Cost because of optional excursion to Paris is about 200 euros.
