The Future of Work

Your future!

3 programs, a knowledge center and a university partner collaborate to provide diverse perspectives and a unique experience!

 

  1. HRM will focus on the workforce, with concepts regarding employee engagement, culture, and diversity.
  2. Facility Management will focus on the Workplace, incorporating the role of the physical workplace and remote-working.
  3. Communication Management will focus on digital ecosystems and the digital revolution, including a focus on AI.

 

How:

  • 5 credits related to a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Project together with a European university and possibility for travel.
  • 5 credits related to research, delving deeper into one specific aspect, sharing this with others, with support of the Knowledge Center Global & Inclusive Learning, developing your research skills!
  • 5 credits related to workshops designed by peers, guest lecturers and more resulting in a personal reflection.

-Students can explain and apply theories and trends related to the future:  workforce, (HRM), workplace (FM) and connectivity (COM). (related to all exams)

-Students can express their opinion and engage is critical discussions based on the theories and knowledge provided in order to offer a substantiated view on the future of work and what it means for future ready education (related to all exams)

-Students can carry out an individual research project resulting in an abstract suited for an academic journal and a research poster for a scientific conference. (related to research exam)

-Students can present their research outcomes to others, and to substantiate the choices they have made related to theory and methodology, (related to research exam)

-Students can actively participate in a collaborative online international learning (COIL) project, demonstrating their intercultural understanding and managing online teamwork. (related to COIL)

-Students can reflect on their own learning both in terms of teamwork and their self-competency development (related to the personal learning journey)

Ingangseisen

Students have to have completed their first year certificate (propedeuse)

Students have to be open to work internationally – this can be self assessed

Students have to be able to work flexible – this can be self assessed

Students have to have a solid understanding and skillset of basic (year 1-2) research methods. When in doubt please contact the coordinators.

Literatuur

Material is provided through online, open accessible articles, websites and library resources. Materials include:

-Open MOOC course: https://open.hpi.de/courses/international-teams2019

-trend reports from OECD, Deloitte, ESPAS, for example:

- https://www2.deloitte.com/nl/nl/pages/human-capital/topics/future-of-work.html (this is only for content and not for the collaboration)

-specific articles used by guest lecturers.

-No fixed books.

-suggested literature such as The pleasures and sorrows of work van Alain te Botton

(as students will conduct their own literature review into a specific topic, they will need to find more sources themselves)

Rooster

2 days of content and application

1 day: focus on Content input  + research (2hrs)

-Guest lectures

-weekly classses on research, focussing specifically how to carry out an international research based on the topic.  (2,5hrs)

 

1 day: focus on Content input, collaboration and reflection

– werkcolleges, if possible with guest lectures for content (2hrs)

-workshops developed by and for the students based on the topic. (2,5hrs)

-instruction and coaching sessions

Online sessions for COIL  - with partners (3hrs)

Study load for each product (COIL// abstract,poster / Personal learning) 142 hours, consisting of 32 contact hours and 110 selfstudy hours.

Toetsing

5 ects for the work in the COIL, this is a collaborative effort and is presented to an industry partner/assignment provider from the industry. The results are graded through a rubric including the different activities required for the COIL.  All the collected activities are presented in a Google Site (done before)

5 ects for an individual research abstract and poster presentation, fit for use at an international conference.

5 ects for the focus on the personal learning journey achieved through the workshops and the other forms of instruction and research. This is done in the form of a reflection, as a condition organisation and participation of the workshops have been met. a part of the focus is on their own personal education experience and how this has, or has not enabled them to be ready for the future.

Planning:

-COIL week 1-  week 6 resit week 9

-Reflection, handed in week 8, assessed week 9, resit week 10.

-Research poster: week 7, resit week 10

 

The coil, reflection and research poster are all assessed at the end, but the work is evenly spread in the minor.

The deadlines are in line with program policy that we try to have resits rounded off inside the semester, also for the benefit of exchange students.
