American Studies 2: Aspects of American Culture

This minor is an introduction to American culture and literature. The interdisciplinary minors in American Studies offered here provide a critical understanding of the most powerful and influential country in the world from a wide variety of perspectives. American culture and society seem familiar through the pervasiveness of popular culture and mass consumer products, but US politics and international posture also raise many questions.

This minor consists of 3 courses from the Bachelor's in American Studies at Radboud University. They are also part of the premaster's Transatlantic Studies: History, Culture and Politics. With this minor you can complete a part of the premaster's during your Bachelor's.

This minor consists of the following courses:

1. Writing English LET-ETCENB101 (5 EC)
2. Mediating “America” LET-ETCAMB201 (5 EC)
3. Indigenous Studies in the United States and Canada LET-ETCAMB214 (5 EC)

Leerdoelen

Students acquire knowledge about American culture and society from a number of disciplinary perspectives. For more details, please see the course details for the separate courses, to be found in the Course Guide.

Ingangseisen

This minor is open to students from the Bachelor's Teacher Education in English and students in the fields of Journalism, History, Cultural Heritage, Communication or European Studies.

As courses in this minor are in English, you are required to have a good command of the English language (speaking, listening, reading and writing). If your hbo-Bachelor is fully taught in English, if you're studying to be an English teacher or if you have a VWO-diploma, you will probably not have too much trouble with this minor. If your situation is different, you will need to upload an official language test for Bachelor students with your application at Radboud University.
